Almaty. July 12. Silkroadnews – Apple will invest $1 billion in new data centers in China to meet local consumers’ growing demand for cloud services, China Daily informs.
“Apple Inc will invest $1 billion in new data centers in Guizhou province in China, as the United States tech giant steps up efforts to meet local consumers' growing demand for cloud services. The move is part of a deal Apple inked with Guizhou provincial government on Wednesday”, the report said.
It is noted, the data processing centers will be operated by Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry Co Ltd, which belongs to the Guizhou provincial government. In this case, Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry will also become the sole operating partner of Apple’s iCloud on the Chinese mainland.
According to a joint statement, Apple will register an enterprise in Guiyang to help building data centers and offer technology support.
The deal, as reported, will mark the latest step Apple has taken to increase investment in China, where the company faces continuously growing competition.
Last year, the company founded two research centers to attract talented professionals in the production, design and development of applications among graduates from China’s leading universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Then in March the company announced the establishment of two more such centers. Apple’s headquarter in California committed to invest in them 3.5 billion yuan ($507 million).
