Appointed as the new Secretary General of the SCO

Almaty. January 12. Silkroadnews – A new Secretary General has been appointed of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan informs.
“In accordance with the Decision of the Council of heads of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Rashid Alimov has been appointed as Secretary-General of the SCO”, the statement says.
It is reported that in 2005-2015 R. Alimov held the position of Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in People’s Republic of China, acted as the permanent representative in the SCO Secretariat.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization founded in 2001. It includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Belarus, Mongolia, India, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have observer status. On July 10, 2015, the SCO decided to admit India and Pakistan as full members. The headquarters of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) is located in Tashkent.
