Astana residents have little awareness of national love day celebrated today

Astana. April 15. Silkroadnews –Astana residents of all age groups have little awareness that the national day of those in love is celebrated in Kazakhstan today. The day is tied to the national epic poem of th XIII-XIV century and its central couple Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu.
As mass media reports, it is meant to be a Kazakh version of Saint Valentine’s day, that is more relatable for local population. One newspaper article also reminds that there were propositions to ban Valentines Day in high schools.
The Youth Policy department states that the day is not officially celebrated in Astana, but the tradition starts catching on.
“We are having an event dedicated to Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu day today. A postal box was made available on the first floor. So teachers and students can send  greeting cards to each other”, a teacher from Astana Economic High School #1. Saltanat Sharipova, informs.
