Azerbaijan is ready to invest in the railway in Iran

Almaty. April 5. Silkroadnews - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif during the meeting in the Iranian city of Ramsar discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, Trend reports.

E.Mammadyarov touched upon the results of recent bilateral visits of high-ranking Iranian and Azerbaijani officials in both capitals and agreements on the implementation of the projects of railways connection between Iran and Azerbaijan achieved during these visits.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister expressed Baku’s readiness to invest in railway construction project Qazvin-Rasht-Astara in the Iranian territory.

The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway is part of the North-South transport corridor. Investments in construction are estimated as $400 million, and according to preliminary forecasts, it will transport 6 million tons per year for the first time and 15-20 million tons a year in the future.
