“Baker&McKenzie” to open office in Uzbekistan
Beijing. April 5. Silkroadnews - The U.S. law firm “Baker&McKenzie” plans to open office in Tashkent, the Uzbek Telegraph Agency (UzTAG) reports referring to the meeting between the Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan Ruslanbek Davletov and the senior partner of “Baker&McKenzie”, Thomas Firestone.
The parties discussed the possibility of cooperation to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), in particular, “compliance” training with participation of representatives of lawyers’ and audit organizations, state bodies and private sector, and discussion of the legal aspects of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
Among other issues of cooperation there are organization of courses and internships for legal professionals on international arbitration, exploring the potential of opening an international arbitration institution in Uzbekistan to resolve commercial and investment disputes, including the development of arbitration rules.
