Baku to host the conference on the Caspian Sea marine environment protection

Almaty. January 25. Silkroadnews – The sixth Conference of the parties of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea will be held in Baku, TASS reports.

“The sixth Conference of the parties of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea is planned to be carried out in Baku”, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov said at the meeting of the five-party working group on the development of the Caspian Sea legal status.

He noted, Azerbaijan is “interested in expansion of cooperation between the Caspian littoral states in solving environmental problems of the Caspian Sea and reaching agreement between the parties on the issue of work of the Convention secretariat”.

With this Mr. Khalafov has not specified the date of the planned international events.

Representatives of five Caspian littoral states (Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan) signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea in Tehran on November 4, 2003. It entered into force on August 12, 2006.

Deputy Foreign Minister also said about Baku getting ready for the first meeting of the Commission on execution of the agreement on conservation and rational use of the Caspian Sea water biological resources signed on September 29, 2014, to be held under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.
