Almaty. March 1. Silkroadnews – Based on the results of 2016 China has become the largest importer of Russian products, RBC writes.

“The major consumers of Russian food in 2016, according to estimates by the Russian Export Center (REC), turned to be China (10.1%), Turkey (9.2%), Egypt (7.9%), Republic of Korea (7.8%) and Kazakhstan (7,1%). They were the five largest importers in 2015, though the top consumer headed the list that time was Turkey”, the publication says.

China has outdistanced the other states due to 2016 dramatic drop in prices for grain, which is the basis of exports to Egypt and Turkey. At the same time, the volumes of supply to China have also increased – by 19.5% in monetary terms (according to RBC estimates based on data by FCS).

According to RBC estimates based on the FCS data, the major products exported to China in 2016 were fish, crustaceans, mollusks and other invertebrates, which accounted for more than $1 billion or two-thirds of total shipments. Other popular products from Russia are soybeans and sunflower oil: imports amounted to more than $121 million and $107 million respectively.
