Almaty. February 22. Silkroadnews – After introduction of “five first-level tunnels each more than 500m wide” and “a number of second-level tunnels each more than 80 meters wide” there will be a complete system of ventilation corridors to blow away smog in Beijing, the newspaper “People’s Daily” informs.
As deputy head of Beijing’s Urban Planning Committee Wang Fei said, at present Beijing uses a site with quite a big ventilation capacity to improve the air state in the central urban areas, thus, to raise the overall air circulation in the area of city development.
According to the report, five tunnels of width of more than 500m are assigned the “first level” index, they shall cover a number of parks and large green areas in the central districts of Beijing.
Wang Fei also said, in addition to the meridian corridors of the first level, Beijing will also be covered with a large number of second-level tunnels each more than 80 meters wide. In the future, the smaller vents of the third level can be added as well. The territories allocated for the tunnels will be strictly monitored for the construction works, with due conditions provided the tunnels shall be connected through the nodal points.
Experts said that the wind in Beijing mainly directed upward due to the density and height of the urban buildings. The wind tunnels are directed to retain the city green areas, water basins and other environmental objects, support the safe green space and environmental structure of the city.
