Almaty. February 8. Silkroadnews - Beijing plans to improve the public transport operation to mitigate the traffic congestion, the information portal Chinanews reports.
“Beijing plans to adjust the parking rules and improve public transportation system. The percentage of eco-friendly transportation shall increase up to 71,” - said the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.
It is noted that the improvement directly depends on the operation of the subway.
“Reducing the road traffic in Beijing is directly dependent on the operation of subway, thus it is planned to continue the existing subway line and start construction of another two new lines as well as boost the work on 16 lines under construction. It is planned that in 2020 the length of 40 subway lines will make 609 miles,” - the report says.
Transport authority also plans to change the 40 bus routes and offer new services to encourage passengers to travel more efficient.
At the same time, priority will be given to the bicyclists and pedestrians, 186 miles of bicycle paths will be built, as well as 10 thousand bicycles will be available for hire by the end of this year.
According to the newspaper, another major problem of China is the lack of parking spaces.
“Another problem is a lack of parking spaces. The most of the fastest growing cities in China run into such problem. The most of the office buildings and apartment buildings do not have their own parking. Parking along the roadway causes many problems, and cyclists have nothing to do but to use the roadway, as the bike paths are often blocked by the cars,” - says the publication.
