By 2020 China to move to a new generation of major crops varieties
Almaty. November 22. Silkroadnews – The Ministry of Agriculture of China hopes by 2020 the country’s agricultural sector to move toward using a new generation of major crops varieties, including cereals, oil-yielding crops, sugar and vegetable crops, as well as cotton and tea, “Xinhua” agency writes.
Thus, by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) the major food regions of the country are expected to complete the transition to the new crop varieties with better safety, disease resistance, adaptability, yield and stability of crops characteristics.
It was also decided to deepen the collaboration between the research institutions to achieve new breakthroughs in a number of directions, including improvements in rice resistance to piricularia disease and wheat resistance to head blight of wheat, as well as selection of high-yielding high-protein soybean varieties, etc.
