By 2020 Iran plans to raise gas exports by more than 7 times

Almaty. January 9. Silkroadnews – In 2016-2020 Iran plans to raise its gas exports to more than seven times, Trend wrote.

Currently Iran exports to Turkey about 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year and barters about 300-400 million cubic meters of gas with Armenia in exchange for electricity. However, according to the report by the National Iranian Gas Company, by 2020 the country plans to increase gas exports up to 70 billion cubic meters.

Power sector’s demand for gas is expected to increase by only 15 billion cubic meters per year to make around 70 billion cubic meters, while the industrial sector plans to double the consumption of gas to more than 80 billion cubic meters by 2020.

In total gas production is expected to increase from about 240 billion cubic meters per year in 2016 to about 340 billion cubic meters per year in 2020.
