Almaty. July 28. Silkroadnews – China’s biggest automated cargo wharf to start operation by end of 2017, “People’s Daily” reports.
Currently, the four-phases project of the Yangshan has already entered the last stage of installation and configuration of equipment. The cargo wharf is planned to start trial operation by the end of 2017, the newspaper quoted the construction official saying.
It is noted that a fully automated wharf is a new trend in the development of marine terminals. The deep-sea port of Yangshan due to its scale will become an “outstanding example” of a fully automated port. Chinese port cities, like Xiamen and Qingdao, foreign ports like Rotterdam, study this direction.
The length of the coastline adjacent to the port water area is reported to reach 2350 meters with seven berths built. The capacity of the sea terminal after the opening is planned to amount to 4 million containers per year. Following the subsequent expansion of the port scale 26 container cranes are expected to be installed, 120 trackways and more than 130 automatically controlled vehicles will be used. By that time, the wharf capacity is projected to reach 6 million 300 thousand containers per year.
