Almaty. June 13. Silkroadnews – Canada has established preliminary contacts with Iran and began negotiations to resume the relations between two countries, IrTAG reports.

“Negotiations have begun at the official level,” head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada Stéphane Dion said.
S.Dion declined to comment information by mass-media saying the negotiations are supposedly held in New York, where both countries do have their political delegations.

“No comments from my side. Though normally the countries that want to restore the connections do it gradually step by step in a neutral territory,” he said, having added Canada has no plans to resume its embassy operation in Tehran in the near future.

IrTAG reminds, in 2012 Canada broke off diplomatic relations with Iran and accused it of weapons and ammunition supplies to Syria and nuclear program development threatening the world community’s security. Canada closed its embassy in Tehran and recalled its diplomats.
