Central Bank of China has forbidden second-tier banks to conduct business with North Korea

Almaty. September 22. Silkroadnews – The Central Bank of China has banned second-tier banks to conduct business with North Korea, The Asahi Shimbun reported.
“China's central bank has told banks to strictly implement United Nations sanctions against North Korea,” report said.
The tension between the United States and North Korea have aggravated after the sixth and most powerful nuclear test Pyongyang held on September 3, prompting the UN Security Council to impose additional sanctions last week.
It is reported that Chinese banks have undergone a thorough check as they had been considered as a channel for the funds to flow to and from North Korea.
China’s Central Bank banned financial services provision to new North Korean customers and ordered to stop lending to existing customers from the DPRK. At the same time, banks have been warned of the economic losses and reputational risks in case they do not follow the UN sanctions.
Also the Central Bank called on the second-tier banks to explain to their North Korean customers that the banks only fulfill their international obligations when apply the United Nations sanctions. However, the document released by the central bank did not specify if existing North Korean account holders could still deposit or remove money from their accounts.
The report also reminded, the U.S. President Donald Trump ordered new sanctions on Thursday that open the door wider to blacklisting people and entities doing business with North Korea, including its shipping and trade networks.
