Almaty. December 13. Silkroadnews - On Tuesday, the officials of the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) demanded the country’s authorities to speed up decision on appointment of the CEC new chairman, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
As “Afghanistan.Ru” earlier reported, the former head of the IEC Najibullah Ahmadzai was removed from the office by the decree of President Ashraf Ghani. The resignation was preceded by the relevant decision of the commission, 5 out of 7 members of the Central Election Commission voted for his removal.
Ahmadzai himself did not want to voluntarily leave his post before the presidential decree release, saying he turned to be a victim of a political conspiracy with participation of Akram Khpalwak, adviser to the head of the state.
Wasima Badghisi, deputy and acting head of the IEC, has recently noted the timely voting requires the efforts of not only the election commission, but also the government.
“We are ready to hold elections in 1397 (the lunar calendar corresponding to 2018), provided the government will also focus on the issue,” she said.
