Chief of Jamiat-e-Islami called on Taliban to take advantage of ceasefire proposal
Beijing. June 13. Silkroadnews - The chief of Jamiat-e-Islami and the former governor of Balkh province Ata Mohammad Noor, called on the Taliban to take advantage of the ceasefire proposal, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
In a statement published on the Internet after the announcement of a temporary ceasefire by the Taliban, Noor said Taliban should seize the opportunity and join the political process to help to realize the people’s wish for lasting peace in Afghanistan, the Afghan Voice Agency writes.
The Taliban announced on Saturday that the leadership of the group has decided to announce a ceasefire during three days of Eid-ul-Fitr, during which no attacks on Afghan troops would be conducted. The announcement by the Taliban group apparently followed the declaration of the ceasefire by the Afghan government. Earlier on Thursday last week, President Ghani announced a ceasefire with the Taliban group and said the Afghan forces will not conduct offensive operations against the group from 27th of the holy month of Ramadan until the 5th day of Eid, the report reads.
The ceasefire announcement by the Afghan government and the Taliban group has been widely recognized at the national and international levels, as efforts made to end the ongoing violence through reconciliation.
