China aims to build 30 nuclear power plants in countries involved in “belt and road” initiative by 2030

Almaty. March 2. Silkroadnews - China aims to build 30 nuclear power plants in countries involved in “belt and road” (the economic zone of the Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century), reports Xinhua news agency.
As the President of the China national nuclear corporation (Knack) Sun Qin said, the corporation has already signed an agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy with Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Great Britain, France, Jordan and Armenia.
More than 70 countries have already started or are planning to build nuclear power units. According to estimation the construction of about 130 units will be completed by 2020, and by 2030 their number will approach to 300, the nuclear expert said.
Knack is ready to boost the cooperation with foreign countries along the entire chain of development of the nuclear industry. At the same time, the focus will be made to assist countries involved in “belt and road” initiative to form the integrated structure of the nuclear industry and localization of production.
Currently, China operates 30 nuclear power units with a total capacity of 28.31 million kW. Another 24 nuclear power units are under construction.
