Almaty. November 7. Silkroadnews - China and Nepal discuss construction of a cross-border railway, People’s Daily reports.
“Officials from China’s National Railway Administration (NRA) informed Nepali officials that China has given high priority to developing cross-border railway connecting Kathmandu and Chinese border town Kerung,” the report said.
During a meeting between a visiting delegation of the NRA and the representatives of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Department of Railway of Nepal, the Chinese delegation said the objective of their visit was to create the basis for the construction of the proposed railway. At the same time, the NRA representative Zheng Jian noted that the construction of the proposed railway corridor will be complicated and challenging to build.
“This delegation’s priority to start preliminary works including the preliminary feasibility study of the corridor,” the agency quoted him saying.
The Chinese delegation will start a trip on the proposed railway route from Tuesday, and both sides will be holding another meeting on Friday.
Zheng stressed the need for long-term planning and careful study of all technical aspects and the search for basic technical solutions for the development of the proposed railway.
