Almaty. February 17. Silkroadnews – According to Xinhua news agency, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Zhang Yesui, together with the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Lim Sung-nam carried out the 7th strategic dialogue of the foreign ministries at the highest level, and also had a meeting with the foreign minister of Republic of Korea and the first secretary of the president of Republic of Korea on foreign policy and national security.
“The denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and sustainable peace and stability meet the common interests of China and the Republic of Korea. China opposes nuclear testing and launch of the satellite in the DPRK and supports the adoption of new and efficient resolution of the UN Security Council. However, sanctions themselves are not the final objective, the way to solve the problem shall be found through the dialogue and negotiations,” - the publication quotes Zhang Yesui saying.
Deputy Minister also announced a tough government’s position on the possible placement of US THAAD missile defense complex in the Republic of Korea, saying these actions do not contribute to ease the tension and ensure peace and stability in the region, but disrupt the strategic security interests of China. Thus, China expresses its grave concern and opposes to THAAD missile complex allocation in Korea.
Representatives of the Republic of Korea noted North Korea ignores the international community’s protests and persists on holding the repeated nuclear tests and satellites launches. These actions threaten the security of the Republic of Korea and undermines the international nuclear non-proliferation system. The Republic of Korea intends to support work with China on the issue of THAAD allocation and does not want to have this problem to damage China’s interests or influence the relations between the Republic of Korea and China.
