China became the first country to pay a fee to the UN budget in 2017

Almaty. February 27. Silkroadnews – China has already paid the annual contributions to the United Nations budget for 2017, having turned to be the first among the “largest contributors” to meet its payment obligations, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated, “People’s Daily” wrote.

Since 2016, as stipulated by the UN General Assembly’s decision allocating expenses of the organization between the states, China’s share of contributions to the UN regular budget raised from 5.148% to 7.921%. According to this plan, in 2016 China paid $196 million as a contribution to the UN regular budget; for 2017 funding China had to pay $199 million.

Deputy Director of the Economic Development Committee under the UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC said that China has become the first country that paid a fee to the UN budget in 2017, which fully demonstrated the state’s great attention to the international obligations and their faithful execution.

The organization’s regular budget is set every two years. The contributions of each country are determined based on the state’s solvency, the regulation is carried out every three years. According to UN data, for various reasons, every year some countries become indebted. In 2016 145 states had paid their contributions, while 48 states run into debt.
