China called for understanding of Myanmar’s need to protect stability in the country
Almaty. September 20. Silkroadnews – China called for understanding of Myanmar’s need to protect stability in the country, the online portal Today Online reported.
“Violent incidents in Myanmar's Rakhine state are unacceptable and there should be understanding of the Myanmar government's efforts to protect social stability,”, the report quoted Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi saying.
With this the publication reminds, more than 400,000 Muslims Rohingya fled to Bangladesh after the anti-terrorist operation of the Myanmar army, following the attack on the police station and military base by members of the “Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army” at the end of August, when dozens of people were killed and injured. Representatives of the U.N. called the actions of the government of Myanmar “ethnic cleansing”.
As Wang pointed out, it is necessary to reduce tension in Myanmar as soon as possible.
“The urgent task is to ease the tense situation as quickly as possible, avoid innocent people being harmed, prevent the humanitarian crisis spreading, and encouraging and supporting Myanmar and Bangladesh to seek a fundamental resolution via dialogue and consultation,” he is quoted saying.
It is noted that Aung San Suu Kyi, the state councilor of Myanmar, condemned the violation of rights in the state of Rakhine and said the violators would be punished and called to help the Muslims of Rohingya, but did touch on the U.N. statements on ethnic cleansing.
Western diplomats and officials reportedly welcomed the message by the Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, but some still questioned whether she had made enough to deflect the criticism.
