Almaty. December 13. Silkroadnews - China has called for an agreement on outer space demilitarization, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to the People's Daily.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang, China has a very clear and consistent position on the issue of the outer space demilitarization. China hopes the world community’s interested parties will come to a consensus on the issue and start negotiations on an agreement on prevention of the deployment of weapons in outer space.
The statement of China’s foreign ministry became a response to the decision of the U.S. President Donald Trump to resume the research of the Moon to lay foundation for further Mars mission.
China is ready to strengthen cooperation with other parties of the international community in this field and is pleased to see the achievements by different countries in scientific and technological progress in the development and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, the foreign ministry statement says.
To remind, on December 11 the U.S. President D.Trump signed the directive on the Moon program resumption, having noted this time the Americans will not only plant their flag on the Moon surface but also will make “a giant move in the path of American leadership in space.”
Note, the U.S. is the third world leader that announced the large-scale Moon research program plans in December. On December 7, China stated it plans to create a robotic base there, and on December 11 it became known that Russia would submit a proposal to the United Nations on mining asteroids and the Moon.
