China gets four new billionaires a week

Beijing. March 2. Silkroadnews - Shanghai-based research house Hurun says the Communist-ruled country is generating four new billionaires a week, The Financial Review reports.
At present, there are 819 billionaires in the mainland China, 210 of them joined the list during the year, according to Hurun’s annual global rich list. The growth rate of the number of billionaires in China has outstripped that of the United States, where the number of billionaires increased by 19 people and reached 571. In 2015, China also outperformed the United States in the total number of dollar billionaires.
Australia ranked 14 on a list of where the world's billionaires live, with 41. Beijing is the city with the most billionaires with 131 and then New York with 92, the report reads.
Although the growth rate of the number of billionaires in China is much higher than in other countries, the richest people in the world are still Americans. Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, took first place after adding $51 billion to his fortune, bringing it to $123 billion. Warren Buffett overtook Bill Gates and reached $100 billion, increasing his fortune 31%, Rupert Murdoch ranked 26 with $32 billion.
The Hurun Global Rich List 2018 ranked 2,694 billionaires from 68 countries and from 2,157 companies. Total wealth increased by a staggering 31 per cent to $US10.5 trillion, equivalent to 13.2 per cent of global GDP.
