Beijing. June 21. Silkroadnews - Within the framework of its first resettlement program for residents living in a high-altitude nature reserve Tibet Autonomous Region in the Southwest of China resettled about 1100 people, Tibet online reports.
Residents of two villages located in the national reserve Qiangtang at an altitude of more than 5000 meters above sea level have been resettled to the area at an altitude of 3800 meters above sea level, 27 kilometers from the capital of the autonomous region of Lhasa.
“In the previous location, there are little oxygen and public facilities, and life expectancy is lower than the region’s average,” the agency quoted saying by Dzongga, deputy head of the regional forestry bureau.
The resettlement program helps improve the lives of local residents and reduce human activities that can damage the fragile environment in the reserve, Dzongga said.
The regional government spent 226 million yuan (about $35.1 million) on the resettlement program, the construction of houses, kindergartens and public facilities, as well as subsidies to rural residents.
