Beijing. May 28. Silkroadnews - In April China imported 3.39 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in April, which is a 56.5% increase year-on-year, data by China’s customs authority shows, SINA.com reports.
According to the General Administration of Customs, the total volume of imports of LNG amounted to 15.75 million tonnes for the first four months of the year, which is 58.3% more than last year.
Reportedly, China has surpassed the Republic of Korea, becoming the world’s second largest LNG importer in 2017, IHS Markit, a global marketing information company, says.
The import of natural gas to China has grown due to the need to meet growing domestic consumption, which was primarily due to environmental policy, which requires a reduction in the use of coal in the production of electricity.
