China introduces annual three-months ban on fishing in the Yellow River starting from 2018

Beijing. February 20. Silkroadnews - China introduces fishing ban from April 1 to June 30 in the Yellow River starting from 2018, Reuters reports.
“The ban aims to protect aquatic organisms in the Yellow River as excessive fishing threatens fishery resources, and will be effective in the main stream, 13 tributaries and three major lakes linking to the Yellow River,” the report said.
China has introduced annual fishing ban in the Yangtze River since 2002 and in Pearl River since 2010.
The Yellow River is the second longest river in China after the Yangtze River. It originates in the Qinghai province in the northwest of the country and flows through the central and northern parts of the country, including Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and Shandong provinces.
In recent years, some regions, such as Ningxia and Gansu, have imposed temporary bans on fishing in the Yellow River. Nevertheless, illegal fishing has not yet been eliminated due to a lack of joint actions by regulators in different regions.
China’s officials also consider the option of introducing annual fishing bans in other rivers.
