Almaty. November 8. Silkroadnews – China has launched a project of floating plant with small power reactor, the newspaper “People’s Daily” writes.

China General Nuclear group (CGN) announced signing of “ACPR50S reactor pressure vessel purchase agreement” with Dongfang Electric Corporation, which means the official start of work on small-power nuclear reactor construction.

CGN Power Research Institute deputy chief engineer and small reactor lead designer Rui Min said that construction of the floating nuclear power plant mainly consists of platform construction, equipment installation, etc., it does not include the land-based construction, thus, the most important impact is the reactor equipment production, and the pressure reactor will have the longest production period. In this regard, the signing of the vessel purchase agreement marks the official start of construction of ACPR50S facilities.

ACPR50S project is considered as an optimum solution for combined supply of heat, electricity and fresh water for works on marine resources development, as well as for the supply of electricity and rendering assistance in emergencies for island and coastal areas.

For China this is the first offshore nuclear power plant, the newspaper said.
