Almaty. December 18. Silkroadnews - China on Thursday morning launched the country's first space satellite to probe the dark matter particles, which scientists say is a big part of the mass of the universe, says Xinhua.
The device, called "Wukong", was launched into orbit from the Jiuquan spaceport in Gansu Province by a carrier rocket "Long March-2F".
Deputy Head of the Purple Mountain Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chief scientist for the development of the satellite to probe dark matter particles Chang Jin said that as bandwidth monitoring and the accuracy of the energy resolution "Wukong" has no analogues in the world.
Scientists hope that the 1.9-ton satellite will help them find evidence of the existence in space invisible dark matter.
According to preliminary estimates, the usual observable matter accounts for only 5% of the mass of the universe, the remaining 95% comes from the invisible dark matter and dark energy.
In the next two years, "Wukong" will scan space, continue to conduct focused monitoring of the area where the most likely Skopje dark matter. The first results will be published sensing in the next 6 months or within a year after the launch of Sputnik.
