China launched its first mobile communication satellite

Almaty. August 8. Silkroadnews – China placed into orbit its first mobile communication satellite system, “Xinhua” agency reports.

Tiantong-01 satellite was launched using a Long March-3B rocket from Xichang launch area in southwest China on August 6. It is the first satellite launched within the framework of national telecommunications system created in the country and providing a key part of the country’s space information infrastructure, the publication notes.

Few more satellites will be put into geostationary orbit in future to establish the system operation.

Tiantong-01 has been developed by the China Academy of Space Technology. “China Telecom” is the station system operator, on which base the mobile communication network shall be established to provide service for both China and countries of the Middle East, Africa and other regions of the planet.
