China needs both Russian and Turkmen gas due to growing demand - expert

Almaty. May 13. Silkroadnews - In view of the growing demand for fuel in China, the country needs both Turkmen and Russian gas. This was reported by Trend with reference to the expert on energy issues, the Center for Global Policy Carnegie-Tsinghua Tao Wong.
China as well as other importing countries of East Asia - Japan and South Korea, will always give preference to a reliable and affordable supply of gas.
China has a huge population and rapidly growing economy is the world's largest energy consumer. So, according to BP, in 2013 natural gas consumption in China amounted to 161.6 billion cubic meters, which is 10.8% more than in 2012.
Today, China is the largest importer of Turkmen gas. In 2014, Turkmenistan exported 25.9 billion cubic meters of gas to China.
In accordance with the agreement signed between the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and the State Concern "Turkmengaz" by the end of 2021, Turkmenistan will annually supply to China 65 billion cubic meters of gas.
As for the Russian gas, the expert said that, because of its route, the construction of the pipeline "Power of Siberia" will have an advantage in access to the market of the north of China. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2018.
According to the signed in May 2014 an agreement between "Gazprom" and CNPC, the Russian gas will be supplied to China in the amount of 38 billion cubic meters per year.
