China operates 4.57 million kilometers of roads

Almaty. June 17. Silkroadnews – China’s roads operational length reached 4.57 million kilometers at the end of 2015, People’s Daily reported.

“The country has made a transition from the original coverage to building the road network covering the whole country,” Yang Chuantang, Minister of Transport, said at China’s meeting on the roads maintenance and repair.
Over the past five years from 2011 to 2015 China has reconstructed 264 thousand kilometers of roads of the state and provincial level and improved significantly their traffic capacity.

According to minister, 99% of Chinese villages and towns have been covered with the roads.

Over the next 5 years it is planned to construct or reconstruct up to 30 thousand kilometers of high-speed highways, pave and reconstruct up to 100 thousand kilometers of highway roads of state and provincial categories, and build and renovate about one million kilometers of rural roads.
