Almaty. May 31. Silkroadnews – China reduced its positions by 3 points in the global competitiveness rankings of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), RBC reports.

“With a breakdown into regions, the European countries strengthen their positions in the ranking, while the state of developing countries in Asia and Latin America leaves a lot to be desired,” the statement says.

The strongest growth within the list has been showed by Ireland (from 16th to 7th place) and the Netherlands (from 15th to 8th place), and the most severe drop – by Kazakhstan (from 34th to 47th place), Mexico (from 39th to 45th place) and Indonesia (from 42nd to 48th place).

The US have ceded first place in economic competitiveness. After three years of leadership now the United States takes only third line of the list, staying behind Hong Kong and Switzerland. People’s Republic of China dropped from 22nd to 25th place. And Russia has strengthened its position slightly, moving up from 45th to 44th place. The last line in the IMD rankings once again ranked Venezuela.

The hundreds of criteria have been divided into four core areas: economic development, efficiency of authorities, business environment and infrastructure. The top five leaders in terms of economic indicators are the United States, Qatar, China, Singapore, Hong Kong. The best authorities, as IMD has recorded, are in Hong Kong, Switzerland, Singapore, New Zealand and Qatar. The most favorable business environment is in Hong Kong, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden and Singapore. Finally, the US, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland have been marked with the best infrastructure.

As a whole a sample included 61 countries with different levels of national income and political and economic systems. The IMD report has been based on a survey with 5.4 thousand businessmen involved from the different countries chosen for a sample and 340 criteria taken into account. Publication of the annual rating is being carried out since 1989.
