Beijing. January 22. Silkroadnews - The Communist Party of China has decided to amend the Constitution, China Daily reported.
“The Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a key session concluded, proposed to write Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the Constitution,” the report said.
The meeting participants considered and adopted a proposal to amend some parts of the Constitution.
According to the communiqué issued after the plenary session, the major theoretical achievements, principles and policies adopted at the 19th National Congress of the CPC should be included in the upcoming revision of the Constitution.
At the same time, it is stressed that being the country’s supreme law, the Constitution has played an important role in the practice of the Party’s governance and the process of reform and opening-up.
China's current Constitution is a good one that accords with China’s national situation, fully reflects the common will of the people, fully protects the democratic rights of the people and fully protects the people's fundamental interests. The CPC attaches great importance to the role and function of the Constitution in the governance of the country, and the Party has taken effective measures to strengthen the implementation and supervision of the Constitution, the communique said.
At the same time, the communiqué indicates that the Constitution should be improved along with the practice of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
“The current Constitution needs to be amended because socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and there are new tasks in the new era. Some amending should be done to apply the Party’s and people’s theoretical innovation, practical innovation and systematic innovation outcomes in order to update the rules of the Constitution,” the report says.
The People’s Republic of China enacted its first Constitution in 1954. In 1982, the fifth National People’s Congress adopted the present Constitution, which underwent four amendments in 1988, 1993, 1999 and 2004.
