China’s consumer price index rose by 2% in May

Almaty. June 10. Silkroadnews – China’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2% this May in comparison with the same month last year, Xinhua news agency reports.

As noted, the index growth rates were 0.3 percentage points lower than for the previous month.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in May prices for food, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages grew by 4.7% compared to the same month last year resulted in the CPI growth by 1.39 percentage points. Vegetables prices grew by 6.4% and meat increased in price by 20.8%, in particular, the cost of pork has jumped by 33.6% at once.  

Prices for medical and health services increased by 3.5%, for clothing – by 1.5%, housing – 1.6%, for the cultural, entertainment and educational products and services – by 1.2%, for household items and services – by 0.6%, while the prices of transport and communication fell by 2.6%.

The bureau data also show this May the producer price index (PPI) of China rose by 0.5% compared to previous month and decreased by 2.8% compared with the same month last year. In January-May this year this index decreased by 4.1% compared to the same period of 2015.
