Almaty. September 27. Silkroadnews – China’s exports of petroleum products to North Korea declined, the U.S. News & World Report wrote.
“China’s gasoline and diesel exports to North Korea and iron ore imports from the isolated nation fell in August as trade continued to slow after the United Nations’ latest sanctions,” the report said.
The export of diesel fuel to North Korea amounted to 170 tonnes against zero in August last year, and gasoline supplies amounted to 180 tonnes, which is 96.3% down from a year ago.
The information, as reported, was provided by customs services a few days after the data showed that China’s trade with North Korea increased sharply in August, mainly driven by imports growth, even after the U.S. sanctions imposed.
The data also showed that China imported 1.6 million tonnes of coal from North Korea, for the first time since February, when Beijing banned the purchase of fuel from its northern neighbor.
“It was not immediately clear why the data showed shipments had resumed. A customs official said she would investigate the matter,” the publication reads.
Last month the U.N. Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions on North Korea concerning the export of coal, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood. Sanctions took effect this month, but China put into force new restrictions on August 15.
