Almaty. October 2. Silkroadnews – China’s general provisions of Civil Code entered into force, Xinhua news agency reported.
“China’s general provisions of the Civil Law, the opening chapter of a civil code planned for full enactment in 2020, took effect Sunday,” the report said.
The document outlines the basic principles governing civil activity, such as protection of personal information, virtual assets, intellectual property, etc.
In addition, the law grants the status of a “special legal entity” to rural economic collectives and village committees, which will enable them to carry out such activities as contracting.
Also, the new law protects the interests of heroes and martyrs, providing for civil liability for persons who damage their names, portraits, reputation and honor.
It is reported that the drafting of the civil code, which was decided by the central leadership in 2014, is vital for the rule of law and modern governance and is an important step in “building China into a moderately prosperous society by 2020”, the publication reads.
To develop the code, a two-stage approach was developed. The first stage includes general provisions approval, the second provides for compilation of five separate volumes relating to property, contracts, offenses, marriage and inheritance.
