China's largest deposit of lead-zinc ore discovered in Xinjiang

Almaty. September 26. Silkroadnews – The largest, allegedly, deposit of lead and zinc ores has been discovered in the County of Hotan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), in China, Xinhua news agency reported.

«The deposit reserves are estimated as 19 million tonnes», the XUAR geology and mining officials report.

The deposit is located in the depths of the Karakorum mountains on the territory of Hotan County, at the attitude of 5500m above sea level. The total deposit area is estimated as 6.6 square km.

Lead and zinc are widely used in the consumer electronics, equipment manufacturing, metallurgy, chemical and light industry and pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, lead is especially important for the nuclear power industry and the oil industry. To date the reserves of lead and zinc resources have been discovered in 27 provinces and autonomous regions of China.
