China’s longest oil pipeline construction is completed in South China Sea
Beijing. March 2. Silkroadnews - China’s largest offshore oil producer has completed construction of the country’s longest pipeline yet in the South China Sea, which has a length of 195 kilometers, the Global Times reported.
China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has completed the construction of the undersea pipeline at the Dongfang 13-2 gas fields in the South China Sea using its first deep-water pipeline laying crane CNOOC-201.
The length of the underwater pipeline is two times as long as the distance between Beijing and Tianjin. The pipeline has been designed to serve as one of the supporting facilities of the Dongfang 13-2 gas fields, which will provide long-term stable power supply to the provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, as well as to Hong Kong.
According to Lin Boqiang, director of the China Center for Energy Economics Research at Xiamen University, located in the South China Sea the oil field is bound to attract attention, it is quite normal though for China to exploit oil on its territory.
The pipeline diameter is 80 centimeters, and the weight of a single pipe reaches up to 12 tons. A crane ship allows laying a maximum of 4.02 kilometers of pipeline per day.
Reportedly, the ship is 204.65 meters long, 39.2 meters wide and 14 meters high, with a double-deck the size of two standard football fields.
