As a national anthem, the song was selected in 1949 and was broadcast around the world when Mao Zedong declared the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949.
China already has laws on the national flag and the national emblem. Prior to introduction of the national anthem law, the anthem was sometimes used inappropriately.
