Almaty. July 12. Silkroadnews – China sent troops to its first overseas military base in Africa, Australian newspaper “The Sydney Moring Herald” reports.
China sent soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army to its first overseas military base in Djibouti in Africa, which is a key step in expanding the role of huge Asian country’s army, report said.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Defense, ships carrying personnel to the Horn of Africa (territory of Northeast Africa, where Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia are located). However, the ministry keeps silent about the number of commanded military personnel.
The military base, as reported, will be used by China as a logistics center supporting the fight against piracy and UN peacekeeping and humanitarian missions in Africa and Western Asia.
According to publication, the only US military base in Africa is located in Djibouti, the country also hosts the military presence of France, Japan, Great Britain and other countries.
