Beijing. February 14. Silkroadnews - China has started construction of a test site for unmanned ships off the coast of Zhuhai in Guangdong province in southern China, Xinhua reports.
“The test site off the coast of Zhuhai will be jointly funded by the Zhuhai city government, the China Classification Society, Wuhan University of Technology, and Oceanalpha, an unmanned vessel company,” the report said.
The first phase of the site will occupy 21.6 square kilometers, the second - 750 square kilometers. According to Oceanalpha sources, there will be communication and navigation facilities at the training ground, as well as a berth.
The company based in Zhuhai said, its unmanned patrol ship has already received a license for testing.
The site is designed to test and verify the functions of unmanned ships, including route planning, tracking, berthing and departure.
“Zhuhai hopes to become a high-tech base for the development, test and certification of unmanned ships in three to five years,” the agency quoted Lu Xiaofeng, deputy mayor of Zhuhai, saying.
