China strengthens environmental protection in Tibet
Beijing. March 13. Silkroadnews - Over the past five years the Tibet Autonomous Region of Southwest China has invested heavily to protect its environment, Tibetol.cn portal reports referring to the regional government.
The region has spent a total of 25.4 billion yuan ($4 billion) on eco-compensation to local residents for protecting forests, meadows and wetlands of plateaus.
Currently, the region has 47 nature reserves, as well as 10 model districts, 173 role model settlements and 1924 model villages that support the best state of the environment.
The requirements of environmental legislation have also been strengthened. More than 60 regulations concerning environmental protection have been introduced. The authorities investigated about 1,000 cases of environmental violations.
