China to become world’s largest source of data

Silkroadnews - China will become the largest source of data in the world to account for about 20% of global data by 2020, as the country is increasing resources to integrate cutting-edge information technologies into the real economy, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Chen Zhaoxiong said, China Daily reported.
Vice minister noted, the work on further integration of big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet with real economy to bring a new impetus to China’s economic growth will continue.
“China has already made significant progress in bolstering the big data industry, with a string of big data platforms established in sectors such as manufacturing, commerce, finance, transportation and medical care,” the agency quoted Chen saying.
According to him, at present China accounts for about 40% of disclosed big data patents in the world. More importantly, the country’s digital economy has reached 27.2 trillion yuan ($4.3 trillion), which is 32.9% of China’s GDP.
