Beijing. March 2. Silkroadnews - China plans to build a laboratory to develop technologies for the emergency cleanup of oceanic oil spills, Xinhua reported.
The laboratory will be located in the Sino-Singapore eco-city of Tianjin in Binhai New Area on Bohai Bay.
Funded by the Ministry of Transport waterborne transport research institute, the lab will be a testing field for research on oceanic ecological protection, the publication reads.
Annually, China spends about 200 million yuan ($32 million) for oil spill treatment studies, the technology though has not been widely used due to a lack of a proper testing base.
So far only the US and France have laboratories that specialize in oceanic oil spills.
