China to invest nearly $7.3 billion into methane use projects
Almaty. February 13. Silkroadnews – China will spend 50 billion yuan (nearly $7.3 billion) on building methane using projects facilities rural areas, the newspaper “People’s Daily” writes.
“It is another step of the Chinese government, aimed to raise a clean energy share within the country’s total energy consumption. During the 13th five-year plan (2016 - 2020) China plans to implement 3150 large-scale methane projects”, the statement says.
The plan aims to increase the country’s methane producing capacity by 4.9 billion cubic meters, replace the equivalent of 3.49 million tonnes of standard coal with cleaner energy and cut carbon emissions by 17.62 million tonnes.
230 million rural residents are expected to enjoy this plan benefits.
According to officials’ estimates, China generates 1.4 billion tonnes of agricultural wastes per year, which can be used for production of methane. This amount of waste is sufficient to produce 73.6 billion cubic meters of biogas and replace 87.6 million tonnes of standard coal, the newspaper said.
