China to open a national park of Amur tigers and leopards

Almaty. May 5. Silkroadnews - China will open a national park of Manchurian tigers and leopards, the Xinhua news agency reports.

“In the administrative center of Heilongjiang Province, Harbin (Northeast China), an advisory group of specialists on Manchurian tigers and leopards was formed to prepare for the creation of a national park”, the publication says with a reference to the provincial government of the forest industry.

The group’s tasks include the study of issues related mainly to the program for development of the future park, restoration of population and international cooperation for protection of Manchurian tigers and Far Eastern leopards, and release of these two species into the wildlife.

The agency reminded, at present China is getting ready to open a national park in the north-east of China, on the border with the Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories of the Russian Federation, with an area of 1.46 million hectares. The nature protection area in the province of Heilongjiang is expected to exceed 423 thousand hectares.

The Manchurian tiger has been included into the World Wildlife Fund’s list of the ten rare species of the world fauna on the verge of annihilation, and the Amur leopard is the rarest representative of the cat family.
