China to triple tourism spending in 2020

Almaty. May 23. Silkroadnews – The Chinese government plans to increase funding for the tourism industry three times for the next five years – expenditures on this sector should reach 3 billion yuan (about $460 billion), TASS reports with the reference to the China Daily.

As Li Jinzao, chairman of China National Tourism Administrations, said at the first World Conference of Tourism, following the results of 2015, the Chinese authorities have allocated more than 1 billion yuan, i.e. 42% annual increase in funding, for the industry development. According to him, the tourism sector made 10.8% of the GDP and 10.2% of the jobs created.

Li Jinzao also noted, according to his agency, the number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad should grow to 600 million people in the next five years. One of the priorities of international tourism, according to him, will be the states located on the “Silk Road economic belt”.

He said, within the next five years, China plans to direct about 150 million travelers to these countries. The expenses by these tourists are expected to make around $200 billion.
