Almaty. December 4. Silkroadnews - China will not close the doors to the global Internet, yet insists on cyber sovereignty, President Xi Jinping said, Singapore’s The Straits Times reports.
“China will never close its doors: they will only be opened wider and wider going forward,” President Xi Jinping said. But this openness is premised on cyber sovereignty,” the report said regarding development of digital economy.
It is explained, the cyber sovereignty is the idea saying the state should be allowed to manage and maintain its own Internet without external interference. The Communist Party of China tightened cyber regulation last year, introducing new rules that require foreign companies to store user data in the PRC territory and provide the due access to them. Cyber regulators say the laws comply with international rules and have been designed to protect personal confidential information and counter attacks on basic infrastructure.
Google and Facebook, as well as Twitter Inc and most major Western news agencies, are banned in China.
