Chinese foreign direct investment to U.S. declined 30% in 2017

Beijing. June 22. Silkroadnews - Foreign direct investment (FDI) from China to the U.S. declined 30% in 2017, compared with a record high in 2016, People’s Daily reports referring to 2018 Annual Business Survey Report on Chinese Enterprises in the US release by the China General Chamber of Commerce.
The decrease reflects the bilateral investment relations are undergoing significant changes.
One of the important factors contributing to the decline is that the United States does not make the processes easier for the Chinese investors to invest to the U.S.
“A chaotic new administration left many key positions unfilled on the Committee for Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), creating a traffic jam of deals submitted for approval,” the report reads, adding that CFIUS also increased its scrutiny for security risks.
As a result, a large number of deals involving Chinese investors have been suspended halfway.
