Beijing. March 3. Silkroadnews - Chinese scientists have found a gene that can play a key role in cultivating a high-quality rice with at least 7% grain production increase, People’s Daily newspaper reports.
The lgy3 gene was isolated from long and slender rice grains by a research group headed by Fu Xiangdong from the Institute of Genetic and Development Biology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then the researchers injected a new gene into NPT1, an existing gene found in some varieties of rice, which can improve both the yield and quality of rice. The report was published on the website of Nature Research.
A new gene, as noted, will be used to grow and promote super rice in the future.
